Co-chair of the Ukraine-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, former foreign minister of Ukraine (2009-2010) Petro Poroshenko has presented at the Snow Meeting 2014 an action plan, which will help realize the European integration aspirations of Ukraine.
“It was a very useful and informative meeting, which actually outlined a vision of the relations between Ukraine and the European Union before and after 2015. An action plan for the signing of the Association Agreement, which is based on democracy and European values and will allow realizing the European integration policies of our country, was presented there. We have also formulated the clear-cut policies after the signing of the cooperation treaty with the European Union,” Poroshenko said at a briefing for Lithuanian and international media after the Snow Meeting 2014, the Ukrainian politician’s press service reported.
According to Poroshenko, the Eastern Partnership program has a great future. “Ukraine will participate in this project. And it will include not only the association. We will do everything in order to speed up the process of integration starting with our association to the EU membership for Ukraine,” the politician said.
Special attention was paid to the issue of providing visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens, he said.
In addition, as a result of the session dedicated to Ukraine, they agreed to continue the dialogue on specific areas of the action plan during the 50th Munich Security Conference, which will take place on January 31 – February 2.
According to the press service, Poroshenko received an invitation to visit a number of EU states to coordinate further action.
The Snow Meeting 2014 was attended by U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland, who met with Poroshenko. The Ukrainian politician also met with Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius, and member of the European Parliament (Group of the European People’s Party) , former Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania Vytautas Landsbergis.
The Snow Meeting, an informal meeting of European and North American experts on international and security policy, was held in the Lithuanian city of Trakai on January 9-10, 2014.
